Group board member and sales and marketing head Ian Robertson and UK government business minister Ian Lucas will attend the event.

BMW transformed the former MG Rover large car plant on the outskirts of Oxford into the global production source for the all-new revived Mini back in 2001. Output grew rapidly until the plant at one point was operating on a seven day, three shift pattern but weekend shifts were scrapped last February as the plant was brought into line with German plants’ five day, two shift patterns after the global credit crunch slowed sales.

The move prompted the UK’s key auto workers union, Unite, to complain direct to BMW’s chairman over the way temporary workers were let go.
