MG is to send up to 10 graduate engineers to parent company SAIC in China as part of a new training programme.

The engineers will work on MG’s next generation of models and will initially start at the company’s Birmingham site where SAIC Motor has its European Technical Centre.

The programme will be for two years, including a three-month placement in China, and starts this September.

The SAIC Motor Technical Centre (SMTC UK) works on the design and engineering of both MG and Roewe models – the latter being SAIC’s own brand of vehicle which sells only in China.

Successful candidates will be supported to achieve chartered engineer status through a Monitored Professional Development Scheme. Every graduate trainee will have an allocated mentor from among SMTC’s staff of more than 300 engineers.

The recruitment drive starts today (14 March) at a graduate recruitment event at Coventry University in the UK’s motor heartland of the Midlands. SAIC representatives will also attend graduate recruitment fairs at Birmingham’s NEC exhibition centre in April and June and may attend events at other universities.

“This is a tremendous opportunity that will provide the pathway to a great career in an exciting and challenging industry,” said MG human resources manager Louise Lane.

“We are looking for new graduates who will relish the chance of furthering their professional training while making a major contribution to the future of MG and Roewe cars.”
