MG Rover has stopped car assembly this week in an attempt to build up stocks of parts. Group PR director Stuart McKee told just-auto that the one-week long car assembly shutdown is designed to alleviate parts shortages that are causing frustration for MG Rover customers.

The temporary assembly cessation will allow the company to divert components produced by suppliers for spare parts. The temporary cease in production, implemented under flexible working arrangements, began on Monday June 10 and is expected to end on June 17.
McKee added that there will be ‘no problem making up the lost production later in the year’.
