Mazda UK will target company car drivers with the new seven-seat 5 mini-MPV (minivan) that made its world debut at last year’s Paris motor show. It goes on sale here in the final quarter of 2005.

The automaker said flexible lifestyle vehicles are in high demand from UK company car ‘user-choosers’. Total C-segment mini-MPV sales in 2004 were more than 15% up on 2003’s 220,008 units, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
The 5, which replaces the Premacy in the UK (it was dropped from the range some time ago), has double sliding doors on both sides – unique in the class – and room for up to seven adults with walk-through convenience.
Mazda claims the seat layout is unique – the second row of seats slide-adjust and recline, while both second and third row seats can be folded down to form a large load area with an almost flat floor.
The UK engine line-up will include two derivatives of a newly-developed two-litre common-rail turbo diesel engine (110ps and 143ps) with a catalytic diesel particulate filter and new six-speed manual transmission.
