Jaguar Land Rover’s employee who suffered fatal injuries on (26 September) at the automaker’s Halewood plant in North West England, died as a result of asphyxiation from crushing.

Merseyside Police have confirmed a post mortem into the death of 49-year-old JLR employee Graham Begley has established the worker suffered “severe injuries” to his chest although no further details are as yet available.

“The cause of his death has been recorded as asphyxiation as a result of being crushed and receiving severe injuries to his chest and abdomen,” said a statement from Merseyside Police.

“Mr Begley suffered injuries during an incident inside the Jaguar Land Rover factory just after 20:00 on Monday, 26 September. He was taken to Whiston Hospital for emergency treatment but died shortly after 22:00.”

Jaguar Land Rover added it was “saddened to confirm” news of its long-serving employee, with a spokesman noting to just-auto: “JLR is co-operating fully with the investigations into the incident.

“Our thoughts are with Graham’s family and friends and we will be of course supporting the family at this very difficult time.”
