UK engine production declined 15.9% year on year in January 2022 to 141,472 units.

Production for domestic and overseas markets fell 29.2% to 50,3360 and 6.2% to 91,136 respectively.

Pandemic related supply shortages continued to bite as rising energy costs and inflation added to challenges, the SMMT said.

Its chief executive Mike Hawes said in a statement: “The impact of global semiconductor shortages continues to stall engine production and, with rising energy costs and inflation, the outlook remains challenging.”
