    Jaguar reports that its global sales in the first five months of the year totalled 56,994 units – almost 70% ahead of the same period last year. Jaguar’s X-type compact premium saloon has so far posted almost 35,000 sales this year.


    Jaguar reports that total sales were strong across its main markets, with a number of countries recording strong gains.


    The UK showed one of the largest gains, with sales up by 105% in May (119% increase year to date), while the USA continued to break records with sales up by one third in May to contribute to a 62% gain in the first five months of the year.


    Other markets performing strongly for Jaguar included Italy, which was 137% up in May (108% year to date), Japan (130% gain in May) and Australia (111% increase year to date on 2001).
