ReMIT, the training arm of the UK’s Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI) has launched a ‘Grow Your Own’ campaign to encourage vehicle body repair businesses to offer apprenticeships.

The organisation has published “The Body Repair Business”, a guide for vehicle body repairers looking to take on an apprentice.

In a statement, the RMI said the vehicle body repair sector is suffering from a skills shortage, and the apprenticeship route is seen as a very effective way for businesses to get the staff they need, and for young people to develop a career.

The leaflet provides essential information on apprenticeships, and details the many benefits that an apprentice can provide to a business.

ReMIT managing director Stephen Ramsay said: “Apprenticeships are good for young people, as well as the businesses that take them on. The apprentice develops skills and abilities that will last a lifetime, and the business gets to train a member of staff in the way they want.”
