The British Independent Motor Trade Association (BIMTA) – representing some of the dealers importing new and used cars from non-franchise sources – has launched a website listing its members.

“We’ve done this in response to consumer demand” said BIMTA general secretary Richard Moore. “Consumers are constantly calling us looking for details of dealers.

He said the website also answers the top 10 most frequently asked questions asked by potential import buyers.

Each of BIMTA’s 80 members has to sign up to a strict code of practice.

“We offer an arbitration service to resolve any problems between a buyer and a member,” said Moore.

“It’s a credit to them than in the last three years we have only been asked to intervene on three occasions.”
