Honda is set to strengthen its automobile sales and distribution organisation in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Some existing independent distributors will also become retail operations.

A complete re-organisation will take place to increase significantly the effectiveness of Honda’s business, by better use of resources within its Nordic and Baltic operations.

The new organisation will comprise:

  • A Nordic and Baltic regional operation managed by Malmo based Svenska Honda (Honda Sweden) with the responsibility for supporting sales operations in the region.
  • Representative offices, to support sales operations concentrating their efforts on the retail operation and the dealer/customer interface.
  • Existing independent distributors becoming retail operations.

Honda’s second European car plant, located alongside the existing plant at Swindon UK, will start production in the summer of 2001. The combined manufacturing capacity of the two plants will be 250,000 per annum and this is expected to be achieved by the financial year ending 31st March 2003.

In October 1999 Honda started the re-organisation of its European operations, with the creation of three regions, to increase the effectiveness of its business and to make better use of the resources within its operations.

    The regional operations are:

  • Honda Motor Europe (North) GmbH, based in Offenbach, Germany with responsibility for the operations in Austria, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
  • Honda Motor Europe (South), SA, based in Paris, France, with responsibility for the operations in France, Italy and Spain and a co-ordination function with Portugal.
  • Honda Motor Europe UK(a division of Honda Motor Europe Ltd.), in addition to its operations in the United Kingdom, also takes responsibility for some of Honda Motor Europe#;s commercial relationships with the new Nordic and Baltic region, Eastern Europe, partnership companies and independent distributors.
  • Honda Motor Europe Ltd, based in the UK, is Honda#;s European headquarters with responsibility for co-ordinating pan-European strategy.
