Honda claims its new HR-V C-segment SUV will be one of the most efficient cars in its class when it arrives in Europe this summer.

The model will be offered from launch with the new 1.6 litre i-DTEC diesel, used in other models such as the Civic and big SUV brother CR-V, or a new to the region 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol unit, both from the advanced ‘Earth Dreams Technology’ series.

“The [original] HR-V created this fast growing market segment back in 1999 and for 2015 the all new HR-V will offer a class leading ownership proposition, refinement, sleek styling, a quality feel as well as being packed to the roof with safety and technology features,” said Honda (UK) head of car Leon Brannan.

“We are confident that the HR-V will perform favourably against its main competitors in this segment such as the current market leading Nissan Qashqai.”

The 1.6 litre diesel paired with new six speed manual transmission will achieve fuel economy up to 71mpg with CO2 emissions starting at 104 g/km. Its 118bhp accelerates the HR-V from rest to 62mph (100km/h) in 10.1 seconds.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine develops 130PS and, depending on wheel size, achieves combined fuel economy of up to 54mpg and CO2 emissions from 120g/km when combined with the CVT automatic transmission. Manual models achieve around 2mpg less and CO2 emissions from 130g/km. Acceleration to 62mph is managed from rest in 10.3 seconds with the manual and 10.9 seconds with the optional CVT.

Honda said the HR-V’s efficient performance credentials are aided by its design and class-leading aerodynamics with underbody panels optimising air flow.

The HR-V will offer claimed class leading boot space: 453 litres with the rear seats up and 1,026 litres with the rear seats down. The car has the Jazz/Fit/Civic style ‘Magic Seats’ system.

Available specification highlights include the new Honda Connect infotainment system and a wide range of safety aids employing radar and camera technology.
