Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM) has built its millionth Civic at its plant in Swindon. The designated millionth unit is a red Type-R for the British market.

UK Civic production began on 19 September 1994 with a model shared with Rover (theirs was called the 400 series) and in that first year just 6,652 cars were built. This year, HUM will produce 138,792 Civics.

Over the past 12 months, HUM production has been boosted from 190,000 to 250,000 cars per year. This is due to increasing demand for the three- and five-door Civic models and the latest CR-V exported to over 60 countries. The plant has also built two generations of European Accord but the third generation comes from Japan.

Honda has invested GBP1.38bn in the plant and now employs 5,000 at the factory.
