UK-based turbocharger maker Holset, part of the Cummins group, is planning to work with supply chain software solution company Wesupply on a pilot-study basis.

The pilot, which will involve key end housing suppliers, including one global supplier, followed a Six Sigma internal investigation of Holset’s business, which was then passed to Wesupply to identify the potential benefits both the company and its trading partners could enjoy by adopting the on-demand solution. In order to identify the potential benefits Wesupply conducted a Collaborative Value Assessment (CVA), involving all parties within Holset’s supply chain network, including overseas and UK suppliers, foundries, machinists and third party logistics providers.

Steve Fritchley, Six Sigma blackbelt at Holset comments: “The CVA from Wesupply allowed us to formally assess both current and future supply processes and helped the team to understand where we could derive most benefit and ROI by using Wesupply within our supply chain network.

“Once the benefits had been established Holset moved quickly to sign with Wesupply, knowing the value that could be obtained as a result.”

By using Wesupply, Holset and its trading partner network will have a single real time view of the supply chain network. It will also accommodate Holset’s Kanban demand-pull strategy, while providing supplier performance and capacity statistics.

Steve Fritchley continues: “We spent a long time looking at various supply chain management partners and were impressed with the speed of implementation that Wesupply could offer. Wesupply’s ability to integrate with our existing manufacturing and logistics systems was another key factor that led us to undertake this pilot. Wesupply’s Collaborative Value Assessment gave us the peace of mind that the system would meet our requirements. It also provided us with an opportunity to work closely with Wesupply to ensure that we use the solution to our best advantage.”

Brian Marsden, CEO of Wesupply, said: “Market leading companies such as Holset operate in a global environment and are continually looking to be innovative to reduce complexity, variability and cost for all supply chain participants – from the sourcing of components to final delivery of the finished product to the customer. I am delighted that Holset plan to utilise Wesupply’s flexible solution framework to enable key collaborative processes across their supply chain network to further enhance customer service levels and satisfaction.”
