Ford says it has slashed the cost of servicing its 2006 car models as a result of improved durability of vehicle components.

The 2006 Focus and Mondeo models will have a new service schedule following purchase, resulting in a service-cost reduction.

Routine servicing work has been revised for the new models, with significantly less work now required on the first service and in alternate services.

Ford said it has been made possible to reduce workshop labour times because of improvements in the durability of its components over time, with fewer parts now requiring regular checks.

The reduced servicing content will apply after 12, 36 and 60 month periods, with servicing remaining unchanged at 24 and 48 month intervals. Oil and filter changes and brake checks will remain in place, but fuel and air induction filters, spark plugs and diesel-particular added filter top-up services will not be checked during the reduced-cost servicing intervals.

Ford spokesperson Fiona Pargeter told just-auto: “The components we are using in 2006 vehicles do not need to be replaced as many times because they have improved durability. In terms of time, servicing and regularity of checks is exactly the same.

“Ford is not replacing certain items for the 2006 models because there is not the necessity to change them, every year our vehicle components are improving.”

Ford said its 1.6 petrol Focus service schedule will result in savings of GBP168.95 (292.155) over a three-year, or 62,500-mile period, while a 1.6 TDCi Focus would have a service-cost reduction of GBP153.65. The company’s new 2.0 TDCi Mondeo is expected to save the customer GBP118.09, and its 2.0 petrol Mondeo model saves GBP96.96 over the three-year period. The reduced service costs do not apply to 2006 Galaxy model but does include the new Fiesta Van.
