Ford-owned Jaguar has released first pictures of its new X-type estate car (station wagon) saying that more than a third of buyers of this type of vehicle cite style as the number one consideration in making a purchase decision.
Like the X-type saloon, the estate will come with various V6 petrol engines or the recently launched two-litre diesel and both two and four wheel drive versions will be built.
Features include integral roof rails and a rear window that opens independently of the tailgate.
The new estate makes its public debut in early September at the Frankfurt motor show.
Estates currently account for more than a quarter of sales in the X-type market segment across Europe and its rivals will include the BMW 3-series Touring and Audi A4 Avant.

By GlobalDataJaguar says its market research shows that compared to owners of saloon cars, estate car drivers are much more likely to participate in sports such as skiing, cycling and windsurfing, than they are to spectate. They are also on average significantly younger than their saloon-driving counterparts and in the majority of cases do not make their buying decision based on child-related needs.
