Production figures released by the UK Office for National Statistics show that car production in February rose by 18.7 percent to 147,379 units compared with the same month a year ago.
Output for the first two months of the year was up 19.2 percent year on year at 301,747 units.
Production for the UK market rose 18.5 percent to 65,704 units and export production was also up by 18.8 percent to 81,675 units.
Commercial vehicle production was up 6.6 per cent last month to 17,357 vehicles, compared with 16,290 in February 2001.
Export volume was up 46.9 per cent in February but production for the UK market dropped for the fifth straight month, by 18.3 per cent.

By GlobalDataSociety of Motor Manufacturers and Traders chief executive Christopher Macgowan said: “CV production picked up strongly toward the end of 2001, driven by export demand and increased demand for heavy vans both at home and abroad.
“Year to date growth is also good. We’re confident this trend will run well into the year as the economy continues to pick up.”
