Vauxhall had to haul more than 500 new Astras back into their factory after it emerged the brakes did not work, a report in the Sun newspaper said.

The paper said the fault was found after final checks at the General Motors plant in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.

The Sun said one worker was hurt when a car failed to stop and up to six other cars also crashed.

According to the report, a supplier’s faulty part was to blame.

A Vauxhall spokesman told the Sun: “This has now been sorted out.”
