UK automakers built 231,628 engines in April, up 14.6% year on year. Domestic market output of 99,041 units was up 50.8%. Total engine output was up 6.2% for the year to date, to 899,516 units.

Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, said, “April’s strong performance was driven by exceptional gains in output for the domestic market, with volumes rising by more than half compared with the same month last year. This more than compensates for a small -2.8% decline in production for export, and is largely thanks to significant investment in new UK facilities [primarily Jaguar Land Rover’s new plant in Wolverhampton – ed] creating additional capacity that is now being fulfilled.”
