The last Crewe-built Rolls-Royce has been completed at the Crewe factory whose property it will remain.

The two-door, Silver Storm coloured Corniche convertible has a specially designed interior, based on the 1907 Silver Ghost, which is also owned by the factory.

Rolls-Royce has not priced a car it doesn’t want to sell but coyly says “£250,000-plus”.

The final car followed a limited run of 45 Corniche and 170 Silver Seraph ‘last-of-line’ models built at Crewe over the last year, all distinguished by a specially resurrected red ‘RR’ badge.

Crewe becomes Bentley Motors Limited on September 16th 2002 and hands the Rolls-Royce marque to BMW on January 1, ending a rather acrimonious four-year period of stewardship.

A new Rolls-Royce factory in Sussex will final assemble and trim new models designed and partly-built in Germany while the Crewe Bentley factory prepares to launch a GT coupé design which will be shown as a [production-ready, we bet] ‘concept’ at the Paris Motor Show on September 26th.

Selected customers and potential customers from Bentley’s closely-guarded [especially from the new BMW R-R operation] high-roller list have already been shown the car at Geneva last March and advance pictures and details have subsequently been released.
