Anglo-Dutch steel maker Corus, currently the focus of a £4.1m takeover offer by India’s Tata Steel, has announced a contract to supply Volvo Trucks with precision-machined camshaft blanks for use in the manufacture of critical engine components.

Corus Engineering Steels, based in Rotherham, UK, will supply the camshaft blanks directly to Volvo Truck’s manufacturing facility in Skovde in Sweden.

The camshaft blanks, which have been faced and centred, can be placed directly on a CNC machining cell which produces the final cam profile, saving a great deal of time in setting up and processing of the camshafts.

Corus product manager Lars Andersson said: “This contract demonstrates Corus’ commitment to helping the supply chain enhance productivity and improve component performance.”
