Continuing the trend running throughout 2015, UK commercial vehicle (CV) registrations once again posted a healthy rise in September, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Boosted by the new 65-plate, overall CV registrations were up by 20.1% year on year last month, led by a 24.8% increase in trucks to 6,709 units while van demand grew 19.6% to 58,744.

Year to date, CV sales were up 19.2% to 321,302; 37,141 trucks (+35.6%) and 284,161 vans (+17.4%).

Mike Hawes, chief executive, SMMT, said: "The continued recovery of the commercial vehicle market is good to see. Particularly encouraging is the consistent growth seen this year in the traditionally more volatile truck sector, while the van market – buoyed by robust business confidence and the ongoing trend towards online deliveries – shows no sign of slowing."
