UK car production increased by 13.9% year-on-year to 139,283 units in September, reinforcing an upward trend in the third quarter – which was an impressive 17.9% ahead of the same quarter last year.
However, cumulative car production in the first three quarters stood at 1,133,512 units, just 1.9% ahead of the same period last year.
SMMT figures show that some 75% of Britain’s September car production was destined for export.
“This is the third consecutive month production has risen in 2007, and the first quarterly rise since quarter one 2004,” said Christopher Macgowan, SMMT chief executive.
“As forecast last September, new vehicles from MINI, Honda, Land Rover and Nissan have all contributed to this increase and stabilised the market.”
