British car production saw its biggest quarterly fall in 2-1/2 years in the three months to June led by another sharp decline in production for the home market, official data showed on Tuesday.
Reuters said car production fell 4.9% compared with the prior three months, its biggest quarterly fall since January 2003, citing the Office for National Statistics.
MG Rover ceased production during the period.
The report said total production was down 4.3% on the same three-month period a year ago, the biggest such drop since October last year.
The fall was led by a 10.8% quarterly drop in home car production, bringing the seasonally adjusted home production index to 58.8, the lowest since this series began in January 1999. On a year ago, home production was down 16.6%, Reuters added.
