British Secretary of State for Business, Greg Clark, is currently (24 February) meeting PSA Groupe CEO, Carlos Tavares in London as intense speculation continues to swirl concerning the fate of General Motors’ UK division, Vauxhall.

PSA is looking to acquire the Opel/Vauxhall operations from parent, GM, prompting considerable union concerns in the UK and a flurry of top-level phone calls between the French automaker and senior British politicians.

“He [Clark] is meeting Carlos Tavares this morning,” a UK Business department spokeswoman told just-auto from London, while Prime Minister, Theresa May’s office is due to provide details of her conversation with the PSA chief later.

Yesterday, the Opel/Vauxhall European Works Council (EWC) met in Rüsselsheim, Germany to discuss the current situation.

Representatives from all countries concluded the following demands and joint strategy, should Opel/Vauxhall be absorbed into the PSA stable.

. Members of the EWC highly appreciate the clear commitment by PSA to respect the agreements and commitments in all European countries and at all European sites and to run a future Opel/Vauxhall as an independent company.
