Automotive supplier Brose is planning to build a new manufacturing facility in the English midlands. The new factory will supply lightweight seat structures directly to three OEMs in the UK.
The new facility will be built on brownfield land adjacent to Brose UK’s its existing site in Exhall, Coventry. Brose says the GBP34.8m investment will create 372 new jobs by 2021, with a further 74 jobs generated in the UK supply chain.
Brose UK, which supplies window regulators and rear seating systems from its base in Coventry, will receive in the region of GBP3m from the UK government’s Regional Growth Fund to help support its expansion.
Juergen Zahl, Brose UK’s Managing Director, welcomed the UK government’s support: “Support from the Regional Growth Fund has accelerated our ability to open the new facility by early 2016 and gives us the platform to win future business within the Brose Group,” he said.
When the new facility is complete and operating at 100% capacity it will take Brose UK’s employment total to around 1,000 people.
Brose said that the new facility will be responsible for delivering lightweight seat structures directly to three carmakers in the UK and that these will be for future model introductions with volumes reaching as many as 700,000 units per year.
