BMW Great Britain is looking to recruit 750 new young sales executives for its dealer network over the next three years.

The new jobs represent a 10% growth in the number of people employed in UK dealerships.

The recruitment drive, aimed at 18-24 years olds, offers a new comprehensive two-year in-house training and development programme.

BMW Great Britain managing director Jim O’Donnell said: “BMW will be introducing an unprecedented number of new cars in the next five years and our UK dealer network needs to increase its sales force to meet this challenge. There are not enough experienced sales people in the UK with the right skill sets and we have decided to grow our own talent. Put simply, we want to recruit, develop and retain the most highly skilled sales executives in the UK motor industry.”

The programme, the first automotive in-house training initiative for sales personnel in this format accredited by the Institute of Sales and Marketing Management, provides the foundation for a career in automotive sales. Other dealer in-house training programmes for young people, covering service, bodyshop and parts and run by BMW’s Centre for Development, have already seen the retention rate for dealer personnel rise to 90%, double the rate normally found within other dealer networks within the UK.

Candidates can either be put forward for the programme by a dealer or alternatively apply direct to BMW who will place them with a dealer. The dealer will employ each successful applicant during his or her two-year training programme.
