General Motors’ skilled trade members belonging to the UAW have forced the US union into delaying its ratification of the tentative National Agreement recently struck with the automaker.
The majority of the UAW-GM membership voted in favour of the tentative agreement by a 55.4% to 44.6% margin, but the skilled trades membership decided against ratification.
“Beginning late last week, following receipt of these ratification results, meetings were held with the UAW skilled trades membership at each GM worksite in order to determine the issues for their rejection of the tentative agreement,” said UAW president, Dennis Williams.
“Based on this feedback from the skilled trades membership, I have determined further discussion with the company was needed. Such discussions are currently taking place.”
