Vehicle production in Turkey fell by 63% in January-February compared with a year ago as the international economic crisis hit both domestic sales and exports.
Data from Turkey’s auto industry trade organisation, the OSD, showed that vehicle production in the first two months of the year was 85,978 units, 63% down on the same period of last year. Car production was down by 56% in the period at 54,030 units.
Exports – which are mainly to the EU and account for most of Turkey’s vehicle output – fell 61.6% in January-February from a year ago, the OSD said
The OSD said last month it expected 2009 exports and production to fall 25% and domestic auto sales to shrink 20%.
