A new light commercial vehicle (LCV) production line has been inaugurated in Turkey. The new small panel vans have been developed by Fiat, PSA Peugeot Citroën and Tofas.

Fiat’s van is called Fiorino and will be launched in October in Italy with sales commencing in December. Citroen will call its van Nemo, while Peugeot’s is the Bipper. The Fiorino replaces an ancient Uno-derived model now sold only in Brazil while the Nemo replaces Citroen’s almost as ancient Visa-derived C15. Bipper is a new segment entry for Peugeot.
The vans are 3.86m long and have a load volume of 2.4m3. A stowable passenger seat enables capacity to be increased to 2.8 m3 for a loading space length of 2.5m.
The companies invested EUR380m to bring the new LCVs to market. EUR190m was for research and development.
Capacity at the plant in Bursa, Turkey is 158,000 units a year. The plant is owned by Tofas, which is 50% owned by Fiat and Koc.
