Toyota New Zealand is recalling 2,450 new and imported Toyota Hiace models manufactured between December, 2009 and April, 2012 due to a possible concern with the gear shift selector.

The pivot which connects the gear selection lever to the automatic transmission may lack the structural integrity to accommodate friction from unexpected rapid shift operation and cause wear, resulting in the lever selecting the incorrect gear indicated on the gear selector panel.

For affected vehicles, Toyota dealerships will replace the lever used for the control of gear selection in the automatic transmission with a new gear selection lever free of charge. The remedy is expected to take around three to four hours.

Owners of the vehicles, which are traceable through registration data, will be contacted by Toyota New Zealand.

Around 100,516 vehicles are affected by this recall worldwide extending to Regius Ace and Toyota Ambulance models in other countries/regions.

Toyota New Zealand is also recalling 1,220 imported Toyota Hiace and Toyota Dyna models due to a concern with the injectors and fuel supply system.

Affected vehicles include Toyota Hiace models manufactured between 2010 and 2016 and Toyota Dyna models manufactured between 2010 and 2015.

Dual concerns exist in the subject vehicles; the first involving the possibility of a crack occurring along the fuel supply path for the injectors, and the second affecting the amount of fuel supplied to the engine caused by the engine’s ECU programming.

The remedy involves a number of replacement parts based on the production date of the vehicles and will be completed by Toyota dealerships free of charge.

Owners of the vehicles, which are traceable through registration data, will be contacted by Toyota New Zealand.

Around 232,427 vehicles are affected by the recall worldwide.
