Toyota Australia has announced it will initiate future Takata recall campaigns ahead of schedule for approximately 82,756 Yaris sedan, Corolla and Avensis vehicles to replace previously installed front passenger inflators.

These vehicles were previously included in planned Takata recalls scheduled for 31 December 2019.

In the involved vehicles, the airbag is considered faulty when it reaches six years after its year of manufacture.

"There is no immediate known risk with the airbag but there will be in the future," the automaker said.

"As the airbag gets older, a combination of high temperatures and humidity can affect airbags with the fault."

The Takata airbag inflators will be replaced with parts produced by an alternate supplier. Parts for this ahead-of-schedule recall are already available so replacements can commence.
