TM4 says it will participate in a new joint venture between PSA Peugeot Citroën, Exagon Motors, Hydro-Québec and the Gouvernement du Québec to develop an electric powertrain.

TM4 will act as the developer of the electric powertrain in the pre-development phase of the project.

During the process, TM4 will develop a new drivetrain, an evolution of its Motive series consisting of permanent magnet electric motors and power electronics.

Designed for passenger cars and light-duty vehicles, the systems are turnkey solutions created for electric vehicles.

The new powertrain will be designed and manufactured at TM4’s headquarters in Boucherville, Quebec.

“TM4 is [pleased] to be working with partners recognised for their technological expertise vanguard,” said TM4 COO, Robert Baril.

“Already well established as a supplier of electric powertrains in the commercial transport sector, this partnership represents a major breakthrough for TM4 in the passenger car industry.”

TM4 has collaborated twice with PSA in recent years, working in 2004 to develop and produce a four-wheel drivetrain system for the technology demonstrator vehicle, Peugeot Quark.

In 2006, TM4 also developed wheel motors for the concept car Citroen C-Métisse.

A wholly owned subsidiary of Hydro-Québec, TM4 designs and markets production-ready electric and hybrid powertrain systems for commercial, automotive and recreational vehicle markets as well as the marine, mining, rail and motorsports sectors.
