Thai vehicle sales increased by 35.2% to 72,012 units in October, compared with 53,271 units a year earlier, according to data gathered by Toyota Motor (Thailand). This brings the cumulative total for the year to 628,371 units – almost 50% higher than last year.

The buoyant volumes reflect continued strong economic growth and high replacement demand for pickup trucks in particular. GDP growth is expected to reach 7% this year, after growing by over 10% in the first half as the economy rebounded from last year’s recession.

Leading the market higher in October were passenger cars, with sales rising by 42.7% to 32,461 units, while pickup truck sales increased by 27.8% to 33,851 units.

Toyota sales increased by 24.5% to 29,595 units in October to maintain first place; followed by Isuzu 14,461 units (+34.4%); Honda 9,885 units (+9.7%); Nissan 5,002 units (+97.3%); and Mitsubishi 3,438 units (+58.7%).
