Thailand exported 45,780 cars and trucks in June, up 23.6% year on year and compared with 43,377 in May, Toyota Motor’s Thai unit said on Thursday.
The June shipments raised the number of vehicles exported in the first half of this year to 263,591, up 38% year on year, it said, according to Reuters.
Thailand exported 440,640 cars and trucks in 2005, up 32.7% from 332,000 in 2004, the report said, adding that Toyota, the statistician for the country’s motor industry, has previously said it expects exports to rise to 520,000 in 2006.
Toyota shipped 15,818 Thai-built vehicles in June, followed by Mitsubishi Motors with 11,280, Honda (5,321), Ford (4,723), Isuzu (3,746), Mazda (2,720) and General Motors (2,171).
Reuters noted that Thailand has become a major export base for small pick-up trucks for most Japanese and US carmakers with one-tonne pickup trucks now exported to about 180 countries.
