Thai vehicle production grew by 33.8% year on year to a monthly record of 205,600 units in June, according to the Federation of Thai Industries.
Local vehicle manufacturers are now fully-recovered from the devastating floods of the fourth quarter of 2011. Cumulative output for the first-half of 2012 was more than 30% higher at 1.06m units.
The Federation is optimistic that full-year output will grow to 2.2m units, compared with 1.65m units last year.
There is still strong pent-up demand in the Thai domestic market, with the order backlog for some key models several months long. Vehicle sales increased by almost 76% in June to a new monthly record of 123,471 units.
Vehicle exports also hit a new record high of 94,722 units in June and 456,869 units in the first six months of 2012.
