New vehicle sales in Thailand fell by 37.2% to 93,123 units in November, compared with near-record volumes of 148,243 units a year earlier, according to data released by the Federation of Thai Industries.

Buying sentiment was affected by the political unrest around the country during the month, while year-earlier volumes were also artificially inflated by the government’s first-time buyer scheme.

Eleven-month year-to-date sales were 5.7% lower 1,216,391 units, compared with 1,289,799 sold in the same period last year.

Vehicle output fell by 28.7% to 182,818 units in November, although over the eleven-month period volumes were 2.9% higher at 2,298,193 units.

Exports fell by 4.2% to 96,006 units in November, but were up by 10.6% at 1,040,191 units year-to-date.
