Thai auto sales rose 18% year-on-year in March, boosted by a number of new models according to industry data compiled by Toyota.

Car and truck sales topped 66,107 units — up from 56,021 in March 2007 — and sales for the first quarter of this year jumped 16.3% to 160,786.

“Sales grew for the third consecutive month in March,” Toyota Motor Thailand said in a statement on Friday.

“The response to new modified car models means momentum will likely continue into the second quarter, despite the oil price climb.”

According to its projections, April car sales will increase further, boosted by the advance sale of 18,338 units during the Bangkok International Motor Show last month, and improved consumer confidence after a government stimulus package.
