Nissan has said that its Navara pickup truck will be produced at Mitsubishi Motors’ Laem Chabang facility from April 2012.
The plant in Eastern Thailand will produce 60,000 units of the Navara in the next fiscal year, according to Nissan Regional Vice President of Asia and Oceania Operations Toru Hasegawa.
The two companies are now involved in a number of selective collaborations.
Pickups have long figured prominently in Thailand’s auto industry; favourable domestic tax rules meant that Thailand’s pickup market developed way ahead of the passenger car sector. Over the last ten years, Thailand has developed into a major global production source for pickups.
