Driver assist aids include lane keeping, adaptive cruise control with forward alert, front and rear park assist, tyre pressure monitoring and electronic stability programme with rollover mitigation and trailer sway control.

The driver impairment monitor uses the forward-facing camera and on-board sensors to detect if the driver is drowsy and, in markets where available, emergency assistance uses a Bluetooth-paired and connected phone to call local emergency services in the event of a serious collision. The system communicates details of the accident and vehicle location, and then opens the line to let the driver speak directly with responders.

Other technologies include hill launch assist, hill descent control, adaptive load control, which adjusts the stability control system based on vehicle load, and emergency brake assistance.

The Ranger will be offered with four diesel engines, depending on market – an updated 3.2-litre Duratorq I5 TDCi diesel with reworked exhaust gas recirculation to improve fuel efficiency by up to 18%, the 2.2-litre I4 TDCi Duratorq diesel plus the standard 2.2-litre diesel in two states of tune.

A 2.5-litre Duratec petrol engine will also be offered.

Automatic start/stop can improve fuel economy by up to 3.5%. An optional longer final drive ratio boosts fuel economy at highway speeds.

Ford will make the new Ranger at its AutoAlliance Thailand factory in Rayong, Thailand (alongside the similar Mazda variant) for distribution throughout Asia Pacific, its Silverton plant in Pretoria, South Africa for distribution in Africa and Europe, and its Pacheco stamping and assembly plant in Argentina for distribution in Latin America.
