Ford has started built its EcoSport B-crossover at Ford Thailand Manufacturing (FTM) in Rayong, Thailand.

The Thai plant will supply ASEAN markets as well as Australia (which has a free trade agreement with Thailand) and New Zealand. The complex already builds the Fiesta, Focus and Endeavour SUVfor regional sale and the Ranger pickup truck for global supply.

FTM is the fourth plant to build EcoSport, joining Ford factories in Chennai, India, Chonqing, China and Camcari, Brazil, reinforcing the strategic role of Thailand as a volume production and export hub in the region, according to Ford.

The EcoSport eventually will be sold in 100 markets worldwide.

The ASEAN-specification EcoSport has a petrol, 1.5-litre, Ti-VCT engine with either a six-speed PowerShift (twin clutch) automated transmission or five-speed manual.

Ford’s SYNC in-car connectivity system is available.
