Thai vehicle sales in November fell 9.9% year-on-year to 57,800 units due to sluggish consumer sentiment amid a surge in violence in the country’s restive south, an industry group was reported to have said on Friday.

Despite falling oil prices, car sales also declined due to months-long severe flooding, which affected nearly 60% of the nation’s 76 provinces, Toyota Motor Thailand, which compiles the figures, told Agence France Presse (AFP).

“Even though we had positive economic factors such as stable oil prices and low inflation, car sales dropped in every segment in November because of floods and the unrest in the Muslim-majority south,” Toyota said in a statement cited by the news agency.

Sales in the eleven months to November fell 4.5% year-on-year to 597,640 units, Toyota told AFP, adding it still maintained this year’s total sales target at 700,000.

Toyota, Isuzu and Honda accounted for 82.2% of the Thai market in November, according to the report.
