Toyota has unveiled the new Camry hybrid in Thailand, with deliveries to start in August.
The cars will be produced at its Chachoengsao plant in Rayong for sale across the region from July. The company has spent THB 350 million on tooling up the facility, which will have a production of 10,000 hybrid cars per year.
The Camry hybrid will be priced at “no more than THB 100,000 higher than conventional Camry models” said Mitsuhiro Sonoda, president of Toyota Motor Thailand. The lithium-ion batteries and electric motors do not incur import duties as a result of the Japan-Thailand free trade agreement, while excise tax will be set at 10% compared with the usual 35%.
The Camry hybrid is compatible with E10 gasohol and Toyota promises it is 30% more fuel-efficient than conventional models. The company hopes to sell 900-1,000 units per year in Thailand.
