Thailand’s auto industry remains on track to produce 1.8m vehicles this year, according to the Thai Automotive Industry Association.
The industry is confident of meeting its full year target despite the latest setback of widespread flooding in the country’s northern and central provinces. Earlier this year output was disrupted by supply chain disruption in Japan.
So far, only Honda has been forced to suspend production, mainly due to disruption to its supply base in the Ayutthaya province – one of the worst affected by the floods. Dealers in many provinces have also been affected.
The association’s president, Piengjai Keawsuwan, said most of the country’s vehicle and parts production takes place in Rayong, Chon Buri and Samut Prakan, which so far have not been affected by the floods.
