April vehicle sales in Thailand reached 39,713 units in April, 27.4% down on the same month last year.

Industry sales data released by Toyota’s local subsidiary also showed that sales of cars and trucks were down 31.9% to 147,487 units in the first four months of the year.

Thailand’s vehicle market this year has been hit by plummeting consumer and business confidence as the economy suffers from political unrest.

Passenger car sales rose 4.2% to 15,981 units in April. Honda had the largest market share of that segment at 40.5%, while Toyota followed with a 38% share.

Sales of commercial vehicles, including one-ton pickup trucks, plunged 39.7% to 23,732 units in April, with Toyota and Isuzu leading the market with 41.1% and 35.7% shares.
