Honda is cutting production at its UK manufacturing plant and putting back the launch of the next Civic hatchback due to parts shortages as a result of the floods in Thailand.

A spokesperson at Honda UK confirmed today (4 November) that the upcoming 2012 Civic will now go on sale on 1 February next year, a month later than originally planned.

Shortages of engine and electrical components have already put the Swindon manufacturing plant – which also makes the Jazz and CR-V models – on a three-day week.

The position on parts supply at Swindon is being assessed on a daily basis and Honda said it was working closely with suppliers in Thailand and throughout its global network to re-establish the flow of parts.
