Honda Motor said production in Taiwan will be suspended from 15 December as the flooding in Thailand has stopped supply of some key components.

Honda Taiwan said in a statement cited by Dow Jones Newswires: “Since Honda’s production facility in the flooded part of Thailand is not operating, Honda Taiwan is affected by the discontinued supply of components. We have been adjusting our output in order to keep production going but we are now forced to decide to halt our production here from 15 December.”

The carmaker said it was not known when production would resume.

According to local newspaper, Honda has a market share of around 6.3% in Taiwan.

Honda officials have said earlier shortages owing to this year’s flooding in Thailand primarily affected electronic subcomponents such as computer chips used in parts such as headlights and navigation systems.
