Honda Malaysia has temporarily halted production at its Melaka plant as a result of a parts shortage caused by flooding in Thailand, state news agency Bernama said.
The floods have closed suppliers’ factories, including Honda Automobile (Thailand) and other parts suppliers to Honda Malaysia, Bernama said, citing a company statement. Honda’s Japanese website also reported the Malaysian closure but gave few details.
“Honda Malaysia is currently studying the feasibility of sourcing parts from other countries until its suppliers’ production in Thailand returns to normal,” Yoichiro Ueno, chief executive of Honda Malaysia, was quoted as saying in the statement, according to Dow Jones.
The report didn’t say when Honda Malaysia would resume production.
