Tesla’s Shanghai factory has produced its millionth Model Y, according to multiple media reports.
An image of factory workers celebrating the milestone was shared on social media last week with lettering on the floor reading ‘Giga Shanghai Model Y 1m’.
According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPAC), Model Y sales in China increased by 26% in Q1 2023.
The Shanghai plant makes Model 3s as well.
To compete local rival BYD, Tesla cut Chinese prices at the beginning of 2023.
Prices have since crept up slowly with a standard Model Y costing CNY263,900 (US$37,127) according to the Tesla China website, up from CNY259,900 ($36,564).
