Tata Communications has formed a partnership with technology firm Cisco aimed at transforming global enterprise Internet of Things (IoT) deployments.
This collaboration seeks to tackle the challenges that enterprises face as they broaden their IoT frameworks, particularly when managing expansive arrays of connected devices such as vehicles and industrial sensors.
The growth of IoT operations within enterprises has been hampered by issues such as fragmented SIM hardware, complicated device provisioning, and a lack of interoperability across diverse networks and technologies. These challenges can impede the deployment speed of IoT projects, inflate costs, and restrict the scalability.
To address these issues, the partnership will see the integration of a multi-generational, global eSIM orchestration solution, Tata Communications MOVE, into Cisco’s IoT Control Center.
Tata Communications MOVE is said to deliver over 350 million eSIM operating systems and oversees the SIM lifecycle, with a reach extending to over 200 nations and territories.
This will enable vehicle manufacturers to dispatch cars to various markets and activate connectivity upon arrival, eliminating the need for SIM swaps, vendor dependency, and the use of different tools.
Industries that rely on reliable IoT connectivity, such as transportation and logistics, will also reap the benefits of this collaboration.
It will enable companies, such as a trucking firm, to activate trailers instantaneously across borders without local SIM cards, or a utility company to monitor its infrastructure on mixed networks without the need to reconfigure devices.
Tata Communications MOVE global head and vice president Marco Bijvelds said: “The continuous evolution of eSIM technologies is generating a transformative shift in the way enterprises connect and manage their IoT devices.
“The unmatched power of Tata Communications’ intelligent IoT fabric and Cisco’s proven device management platform will empower global businesses to unlock new opportunities, streamline operations, and accelerate digital transformation. We are excited to create a foundation for the future of connected enterprises – where they can scale faster, smarter, and with more confidence.”
In January 2025, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Tata Communications strengthened their collaboration to enhance JLR’s connected vehicle ecosystem via the Tata Communications MOVE platform.
