New vehicle sales in Taiwan rose by 3.4% to 378,456 units in 2013, from 365,871 units in the previous year, according to data released by the industry.
Market leader Hotai Motor, which distributes Toyota and Lexus vehicles, reported a 2.8% increase to 127,220 units and claimed a market share of 33.6%. Its best-selling model was the Corolla Altis sedan, with 37,038 units, followed by the Wish minivan 17,477 units and the RAV4 SUV with 15,785 units.
Yulon Nissan Motor, the distributor of Nissan and Infiniti vehicles, moved into second place with 44,010 sales last year for a market share of 11.6%. Its best selling model was the Big Tiida with 17,191 units, followed by the Livina with 14,291 units.
China Motor, distributor of Mitsubishi and Fuso vehicles, fell back to third place after sales dropped 13.1% to 42,060 units – for an 11.1% market share.
Yulon Motor chairman Kenneth Yen expects the market to continue to grow in 2014, with full year sales forecast at 400,000 units.
